For example, it is known to many foreigners that business is done much easier between friends here. Instead of the western-style independency, Chinese people tend to sort to their friends for help and people love to help their friends out – this has been considered as a good way to improve relations and get friends even closer.

• Respecting foreigners’ habits

With an inherent hospitality, senior Chinese people always tell their children to respect habits of others. It is even explicitly listed as the second item in the “Demeanor Guidance for Elementary School Students”: “We need to respect habits of other ethnic groups”. Chinese people believe that relations with others should be established on sincerity. To win respect from others, we need to respect other people first. And it is also considered as a virtue to respect other people’s habit in China.
